2007 Forest Information Management Workshop

Forest Industry and ministry planners, managers and others with an interest in learning, discussing and providing input on information management issues.

 

Highlights Dan George, CEO, First Nations Mountain Pine Beetle Initiative Jim Snetsinger, Chief Forester, Ministry of Forests & Range Walter Matosevic, Chief Forester, Canadian Forest Products LRDW Tools in-depth session LIDAR – Canfor and Dr. K. Olaf Niemann, University of Victoria will present their work using LIDAR as an aid to updating VRI Report and discussion on the evolving Data Sharing Framework being developed jointly by the Forest Industry and Government Evolving partnership between industry and government around base map data and Data Exchange Agreements

Why?

The focus on efficient and effective management of resource based information continues to grow.  A few years ago we mainly looked within our organizations and focused on ensuring that we managed information efficiently.  More and more the focus is now dealing with the flow of information between organizations.

 

In order to ensure that information management activities create positive value for all of us we need to understand upcoming initiatives, share concerns and work cooperatively to improve our business processes.  This workshop is a forum aimed at providing that opportunity.

 

Projects arising from the last workshop are tackling issues such as data sharing, more efficient submission of data to government, forest roads and others.

 

Work done at this workshop will influence and shape how we will do business in the future.

Cost?

 

 

OPTION 1 - $215 per person for full workshop includes:

• Workshop materials
• LRDW Tools session 
• Breakfast, lunch & coffee for 2 days

OPTION 2 - $55 per person for partial workshop includes:

• LRDW Tools session only
• Lunch and coffee

Accomodation:

TRU Residence has made a block of rooms available to FIMW Attendees.  These ‘pod’ rooms on campus cost $72.95 and include 2 separate bedrooms, lounge area and a bathroom.
